The Resort > Itacaré

Native residents, Brazilians from around the country and foreigners who fell in love with the place and settled there, help strengthen local businesses and work to preserve the region's ecosystem.

The Pataxos indians first settled the town founded by the jesuits in the 18th century, calling it São Miguel da Barra do Rio de Contas, as a tribute to the church built at that time and still in use. By 1742, it became a municipality and later, in 1931, it became known as Itacaré - which means ?twisted stone'. After the Ilhéus-Itacaré road BA001 was paved, only ten years ago, tourism flourished in the region and it became an important center within the state.

The large or small bays with stunning beaches and good waves, surrounded by preserved Atlantic Forest and coconut trees that you will find in Itacaré, will surely take your breath away.
